reticent: reluctant to speak

Image
There once was a word trapped by silence, Withheld in a mouth trapped by violence, Until out poured a rain, Of both blood and of pain, And the word is now spoken by sirens. There once was a future far distant, That turned present then past, in an instant, And what little transpired, As the bullet was fired, Kept the egotists small, but consistent. There once was a heart that was scattered, And its pieces then trampled and battered, The suffering, rebuked, Felt their voices turn mute, Being told that the heart never mattered.
